BIOSOMATC CELLULAR ENGINEERING

BIOSOMATIC CELLULAR ENGINEERING: A TREATMENT FOR AGING-

Stem cells could be used as vectors for gene therapy. Since now it is possible to sequence an entire genome for about $ 10,000, we could reasonably sequence the genomes of centenarians and of healthy old individuals and identify genes (including non-protein-coding genes and RNA-coding sequences) that correlate with longevity and good health at an advanced age. These genes could then be used to genetically modify autologous stem cells. These engineered stem cells can then be re-injected into the patient, carrying with them the health-promoting genes. The goal is to engineer the somatic cells but not the germline cells (hence the term Biosomatic Cellular Engineering)
